The Anti-Sadness Jar | DIY

Hello,

Happiness is something we all strive for. After all, everybody wants to be happy :) So myself and Emma from the lovely little blog " Ems World" have been working together to think of ways to help you boost the focus on creating happiness in life so you can really live life to the full ! So pop over to Emmas blog to read a wonderful post she's put together on 'How to be more positive' for lots of helpful tips that will leave you bursting with sunshine :) Unfortunately, there are times when you're feeling what can only be described as a lil bit rubbish. And I can't stress enough that that's completely okay and you should always let yourself have the time to feel sad until you're ready to get up and going again and... well , as my girlfriend would say " Get your sparkle back ". So today I thought I'd show you a quick and easy DIY you can make to help you out in those moments when you're ready to put a smile on your face !

Step One : Get some bright colored paper ( I choose yellow add a little sunshine ) and draw lines down the page.

Step Two : Cut along the lines with scissors so that you get lots of strips.

Step Three : On each strip write something for you to do when you're sad to get your sparkle back. Or even a nice quote or a sweet message to yourself. Anything to make you smile.

If you're a little stuck , here are a few of my ideas :

  • Read a book
  • Make pancakes ( Pancake day doesn't come often enough )
  • Leave a hopeful note
  • Bake a cake
  • Go swimming
  • Paint your nails
  • Watch a comedy
  • Play with kittens
  • Have cuddles with a loved one
  • Have a sing song ( There's very little a sing song can't make feel better )
  • Go shopping
  • Draw
  • Take yourself out for coffee

Step Four : Pop these strips of paper into a mason jar and pick one out whenever you need a little extra sunshine in your life !

I'd love to hear how it turns out if you have a go at this ! What things would be on your jar ? I think it can be really helpful to have some go to ideas for when you're feeling down because when you're in  a bad place you're not always thinking straight so it's great to have a pre-made plan to get your sparkle back :)

Lots of love, Marianne xxx

P.s. I'm in exam season now so until the end of June I'm only going to be able to post twice a week ( Monday and Friday ) and I might end up missing a few posts but I'll do my best to stay on top of it !

Origami Hearts DIY

It's just a few days until valentines day and sometimes it's just impossible to find the right the present to tell your loved ones how much they mean to you . So why not tell them yourself ? Today I wan't to go back to basics ( well with a little added sparkle ) , the good old fashioned love letter . There's nothing more heart- warming than receiving a sweet, well thought out letter that you can go back to whenever your sad or need a reminder of how loved you are. It's even better if the love letter has been made into an origami heart !

Step One : Write your letter/message on a piece of A4 paper

Step Two : Take either of  the top corners of the sheet and folder it diagonally to make across the page. Then unfold and repeat with the other top corner and unfold again.

Step Three : Where the Two fold lines meet making a cross , fold the paper horizontally and unfold

Step Four : Take the two sides of the paper and pull them into the middle and then while holding them in place with you fingers, push down the paper to flatten into out. ( This is really tricky at first but I promise you'll get it after a few goes )

Step Five : Take the top layer of each corner of the triangle and fold them into the centre of the triangle so then meet in the middle making a diamond .

Step Six : Now fold in the sides of the rectangular shape into the centre .

Step Seven : Turn the whole thing upside down

Step Eight : Folder the bottom up to meet the line where there triangle shape starts

Step Nine : Fold down the top layer of the triangle ( I think It kind of looks like an envelope with bunny ears at this point haha )

Step Ten : Fold the bottom corners into the centre to meet each other and then tuck each one into the
little pockets you'll find in the sides of the upside down triangle .

Step Eleven : Now fold the top  triangles down and tuck them into the pockets made by the last fold.

I think this could make a really heart felt gift and if your single ( Or even if your not ) this valentines day you could practise some self love by making one of these for yourself with a list of all the good things about yourself in them :)

What have you bought your loved ones this valentines day ? Let me know in the comments !

Stay Strong <3 Stay Smiley :)

DIY : Self Care Box !

Hello !

It's the last day of Self-Love Week ! I really hope you've enjoyed this past weeks posts and that they helped you in some way ! Today I thought we'd do a DIY because why not ? We're going to make a self care to help you pick yourself up when you're feeling a bit crap and need some TLC . Also this will prove to yourself that the only one you need to help you become happy again is you !

1.  The first things I put in my self care box were a couple of sweets because when you're feeling rubbishy .. you need chocolate ! ( If you're lactose intolerant please don't put chocolate in because I really don't want you to die ... that's not what I was going for with this post ) I also put I  what I like to call my hopeful note book. In this notebook I keep all my favourite positive quotes to write on hopeful notes ! I like to write hopeful notes when I'm feeling down because It's kind of therapeutic to write what I need to hear at that moment in time because no matter how rubbish you feel, you're not the only one and you can give someone the comfort that you need :) If you're not a hopeful then still keep a notebook in your box but adapt it to you ! You could use it to write down how you feel, if that's your thing. Or you could plan the future and places you'd like to go to get you feeling a lil bit more optimistic again ! Or you could even switch it for a sketch book if you like drawing :) The final thing I added to this layer was the lush massage bar - Soft Coeur. This massage bar smells so strongly of chocolate that I wanted to eat it ! It's brilliant for your skin and oh my gosh you have to try it. If you'd rather have something that would relax you then I recommended the Lush dreamtime bath melt . To be honest, you need something from lush in there... if for nothing else then because no everything in my box smells gorgeous !

2. Then I thought I needed some things to make me feel better. So I popped in some tissues to dry up any tears and then a face mask and some nail varnish to make yourself feel pampered and special .. because you are special :) I'm loving the Barry M Speedy Quick Dry nail varnish in the shades " Kiss Me Quick" and "Road Rage". They dry ridiculously quick , seriously if you're anywhere near as impatient as me then you need this in your life :) Then to get you laughing again , you need a comedy ! There's nothing like a good giggle to get you back on your feet and for me , Russell Howards Live DingleDodies never fails to make me laugh. No matter how many times I watch it!

3. Finally I added a few bits and bobs to put the smile back in your face. Like Louise Pentland's  ( Sprinkle of Glitter) new book , "Life With A Sprinkle Of Glitter " which my sister bought me for my birthday last Sunday and I've read to whole book. It's amazing and full of feel good talk and motivation ! If you haven't read it, you definitely should ! Of course, you could put any book you like in the box, even a colouring book if you don't feel like reading ! I also added some hot chocolate sachets .. hot chocolate will make it all okay , trust me :) Then, just to tip me over the edge, back into complete happiness .. BUBBLES ! I LOVE BUBBLES !!!! They're so much un and so beautiful and I'm going to shut up about bubbles now .. ;)

As well as all this I mixed in lots of quotes and nice messages to myself on scraps of paper :) My favourite quote that I put in my box is :

" Even the darkest hour has only 60 minutes "
- Morris Mandel

But you can put whatever you like in your box ! I'll list a few ideas to get you started and is you have some more then I'd love to hear them in the comments !
  • Comedies
  • Books
  • Sweets
  • Hot Chocolate
  • Candles
  • Bubbles
  • Favourite recipe card
  • Tissues
  • Facemask
  • Nail Polish
  • Quotes/Poems/Lyrics
  • Bath Products
  • Notebook
  • Jar of favourite memories
  • Photos of loved ones
  • Something that makes you feel good ( E.g. Favourite jewellery or accessory )
Let me know what you'd put in your Self-Care Box and I'd also love to hear what you've thought of this week and if it's helped you at all and if there's any other similar things you'd like to see on this blog in the future :)

Stay Strong <3 Stay Smiley :)

Smiley Hedgehogs

Heyy ,

There's been loads of super cute stuff floating around pinterest this week so here is my top ten :)

Talking of cute ...guys , this hedgehog is smiling ! ^.^

This is the sweetest thing I've seen all day :)

I have got to try this ! It actually looks pretty easy :) I can't get enough of the step by step DIY stuff on pinterest! If you want to see more of this sort of thing you can follow my DIY board here <3

Such an important message, it's all about how comfortable you are in your self because that will be reflected in how you act and how happy you are. I know it sounds extremely cliché but people can see when you're in a state where you've completely accepted yourself and they pick up on it and it's infectious ! So spend a little time with yourself, get comfortable, become happy. For you and everyone you're around :)

How can something that AWESOME be this simple ! :D I'm definitely going to try this. It would be the perfect cupcake, birthday cake for my sister who loves watermelon ... who doesn't ?

I have the original, Big Bang Theory version of this on a top that my boyfriend bought me for valentine day , so this made me giggle :)

I assume they mean be classy and confident .. not my approach of tripping over and face planting before .... because that's not always considered attractive ;) Who'd of thought, eh ?

Oh Rory .. everybody wants a Rory ! THE FEELS !!!

This mug screams hopeful ! ( If you don't know who the hopefuls are they're the subscribers and supporters of Carrie Hope Flecther, I promise I'll move a most I did explaining who they are on my old blog super soon ) It would also be really easy to do yourself with a cheap plain white mug and a permanent marker :)

This is definitely one of my favourite positivity quotes !

Leave a link to your pinterest in the comments because I love to see what everyone's interested in :)
I hope you have a lovely week,

Stay Strong <3 Stay Smiley :)

Lots of Love, Marianne xxx
