Things to give.... Boyfriends ( Gift Guide )

Boys ! Whether they're your husband , your boyfriend or your boy ( high light the gap ) friend ;) They can be absolute night mares to shop for . But we love you anyway so still give you finding you the perfect pressie a good shot ! So here are some of my ideas :)

Personalised Favourite Song Soundwaves Print - £25

This is one of the best gifts I've found this year because it could actually work for ANYBODY ! Who doesn't love music ? This awesome gift from Notonthehighstreet.com lets you have the sound waves of your friends favourite song printed and frames and it looks absolutely brilliant !

My boyfriend loves the walking dead and a few months ago convinced me to try watching it ! Despite nearly throwing up every time there's blood ( Which happens a lot in a series about zombies ripping peoples bodies up ) I'm actually really enjoying it, we're on season three now and I actually look forward to cuddling up on the sofa for my weekly dose of Walking Dead every Friday !

Okay, so as you know, I'm ever so slightly obsessed with Doctor Who ... no one has to know that I may of read a few pages ( or slightly more ) before I wrapped it hehe ! I'm actually super excited to read this book for myself and I know a lot of my friends ( male and female ) would really enjoy it too !

I hope this gift guide helps ! Let me know in the comment if you find choosing gifts for men harder than for women ? Or if you're a guy , I'm interested to know if it works the other way round as well ! What are you getting your other half for Christmas ?

Music | Quotes Posts !

I love music. I play, piano ( well I try .. I don't mind being bad, I actually kind of enjoy it ), Guitar ( Badly to accompany my songs ), Ukulele ( because my sisters awesome and got me one for my birthday ), Drums ( why the hell not ;) ) and I sing . Singing is my passion and song writing has been my passion for a few years now as well as doing exams in musical theatre. I can't explain what a massive part of my life music is and I think it's also a massive part of a lot of peoples lives. Music is the one thing that connects us because it can be a million different things so can fit anyone :) So over the years I've collected a lot of beautiful quotes about music so today I thought I'd share them with you !

"Music is a safe kind of high"
- Jimi Hendrix

" You know what music is ? God's little reminder that there's something else besides us in this universe; harmonic connection between all living things everywhere, even the stars. "
- Robin Williams

" Some people have lives; some people have music "
- John Green ( Will Grayson, Will Grayson )

"And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music."
- Friedrich Nietzsche

"A bird doesn't sing because it has an answer. It sings because it has a song. "
- Maya Angelou

"I think music in itself is healing. It's an explosive expression of humanity. It's something we are all touched by. No matter what culture we're from, everybody loves music. "
- Billy Joel

"To play a wrong note is insignificant; to play without passion is inexcusable."
- Ludwig Van Beethoven ( This ones my favourite )

"The only escapes from the miseries of life are music and cats.. "
- Albert Schweitzer

"Music was my refuge. I could crawl into the space between the notes and curl my back to loneliness."
- Maya Angelou

As usual, let me know in the comments; which ones your favourite or do you have a favourite that's not here ? I'd also love to hear what music means to you :) If there's any other quotes posts you'd like to see then just let me know !

A Quick Chat ..

Heyy there !

I don't know if you've noticed but I haven't really been around that much and I'm trying to post on my scheduled day but if I'm honest a lot of things happened that make that pretty difficult at the moment. Firstly my phone broke so I had to get a new one yesterday meaning I loosed the photos that were for the recipe post that was due to be posted today ( I'll sort it and get them done for next week ) but that kind of threw me today. I'm also going on holiday with my family next week and then to Belgium with my aunt to see the battlefields. I'm really excited to go away with my family and just get away for a while ( even if I haven't packed yet hehe ) I think it's really important to just get away once into a while to somewhere where no one knows who you are, I find you begin to act like you again :) I will hopefully ( we're not sure if there's wifi ) post whilst I'm away with my family but when I go to Belgium I'm pretty sure I won't be able to, so if I disappear again then that's where I've gone !

As we're here and you've been ever so lovely and read through all my slightly confusing scheduling issues hehe, we might as well have a quick chat about a few other little things :) Firstly, have you heard Fight Song ? I'm not a massive fan of the original but a musician called Charlotte Campbell covered it and oh my gosh I love it ! I can't stop playing it :) Another one of her covers that is so genuinely lovely is Wasn't Expecting That, I couldn't not mention it.

I've also been really enjoying doing creative things recently. I just love making stuff look pretty and I want to start being crafty again ( Pinterest here I come ) I think my next stop is learn how to knit and there's a DIY in a book called Life With A Sprinkle Of Glitter where you get a three part frame and stick a different map ( 3 important places to you or whoever you've giving it to ) in each frame ! If I was you I'd definitely buy the book because it explains it a lot better than me aha. But when I do this I'll make it into a blog DIY. I just think it would make the cutest gift !

Also in the world of Marianne, a few months back I started piano lessons again ! I played piano for a long time when I was very young but I just didn't particularly enjoy it and it took me a long time to quit and I didn't want to practise because It was effort and it was just a lot of extra work if I'm completely honest and because of that, I was rubbish.  But this time I'm a lot older and one day I just thought, I'd really like to play piano again . So I asked my dad and he got me some lessons but we decided not to work towards grades because I didn't need extra pressure. I have been going now for about two months and I love going to my lessons ! I'm not good at piano and I don't feel the need to be. Nothing depends on me learning to play well and because of that I just have to try what I can do and I always leave feeling really calm because when I make a mistake I actually just laugh at myself now . It's amazing what you can achieve after a few weeks of just trying ( admittedly a lot of trying ) but still just trying . Be kind to yourself, you don't have to be amazing at something to enjoy it, enjoy being not good at something . No one wants to be the best, being the best is boring. You'd have nothing else to learn !

* Que another quick topic change* Me and my boyfriend have been trying to get through all of the doctor who episodes from the ninth doctor onwards . We're now on the sixth series, I want us to get to the end of series 8 before the new series comes out in September ! Is anyone else super excited for that ? Let me know if there's any whovians reading this blog, in the comments :)

Right, I feel I've rambled enough now ! This is a very old style, chatty post . I don't usually do these anymore because I did a lot of them on my previous blog but I just fancied having a chat and getting a few of the smaller things I wanted to share with you into a post :) I'd actually quite like to do a few more personal posts on my blog, a little like this so let me know if you'd enjoy reading that or just prefer my usual stuff !

Brilliantly Catchy Songs !

Hello There !

The other night I was having one of those nights where every position is uncomfortable, every pillow feels about as soft as a brick and the chances of sleep felt about as likely as a flying zebra coming in through my window and offering to whisk me off to the moon ! So I turned to YouTube to find something to entertain me until I felt slightly less awake than a 5 year old who'd eaten about 3 tonnes of candy. Some how while I was going through endless videos I fell upon a couple of really brilliant, catchy an unique songs which I now can't get enough of ! So I thought I'd share them with you :)

A Hairdressers Called Sids - Jerry Williams

This is such a super cute, catchy song . I wasn't so keen on it at first but now I can't get the chorus out of my head and I've had it on repeat for the past two hours... so I guess I should say sorry in advance ;)

                      Penny Drop - Beth McCarthy

You Might Recognise Beth Mccarthy off The Voice Series Three ( For those who don't know, The Voice is a singing competition on TV in the UK ) . But me being seemingly oblivious to the world, hadn't heard of her until I found her singing on YouTube and her song Penny Drop is AMAZING !

Coffee And Toothpaste - Libby Tidley

Okay.. yes it is a strange title , but oh my gosh is it brilliant ! Like the cutest metaphor ever !!

                         Lemonade - Beth McCarthy

I know I've already given you one Beth McCarthy song but she REALLY is stunning :) This song is all about taking chances and doing what you need to do to get where you want to be <3

Blue Eyes Green Eyes - Charlotte Campbell

This song is wonderful :) Charlotte has such a lovely, endearing, positive outlook and a gorgeous guitar that I would give both my legs and at least one arm for ... It's really pretty ;) Also, she's just brought an album out called making waves so be sure to check that out !

I'm Not Sure At All - Carrie Hope Fletcher

Just a little, mini song by the amazing Carrie Hope Fletcher. I honestly haven't been able to get this out of my head since I first heard it ! It reminds me of me and my boyfriend when she say " I think I liked the taste of lemonade " because I tended to freeze up in front of his family when asked if I wanted a drink and just go for water to avoid being any trouble !

The Postman - Lucy Spraggan

Despite being super sad and giving me a serious case of goose bumps, Lucy, as always has produced yet another song that's somehow both heart-warming and chilling at the same time ! I love it :)

I hope you like these songs and I'm sorry if they end up stuck in your head for the next week ( I can pretty much guarantee they will be ) If there's any songs that are less well known, catchy and you think desserve a lot more credit then I'd love to hear them to please leave links to them in the comments ! What's your favourite song right now ? :)
