Origami Hearts DIY

It's just a few days until valentines day and sometimes it's just impossible to find the right the present to tell your loved ones how much they mean to you . So why not tell them yourself ? Today I wan't to go back to basics ( well with a little added sparkle ) , the good old fashioned love letter . There's nothing more heart- warming than receiving a sweet, well thought out letter that you can go back to whenever your sad or need a reminder of how loved you are. It's even better if the love letter has been made into an origami heart !

Step One : Write your letter/message on a piece of A4 paper

Step Two : Take either of  the top corners of the sheet and folder it diagonally to make across the page. Then unfold and repeat with the other top corner and unfold again.

Step Three : Where the Two fold lines meet making a cross , fold the paper horizontally and unfold

Step Four : Take the two sides of the paper and pull them into the middle and then while holding them in place with you fingers, push down the paper to flatten into out. ( This is really tricky at first but I promise you'll get it after a few goes )

Step Five : Take the top layer of each corner of the triangle and fold them into the centre of the triangle so then meet in the middle making a diamond .

Step Six : Now fold in the sides of the rectangular shape into the centre .

Step Seven : Turn the whole thing upside down

Step Eight : Folder the bottom up to meet the line where there triangle shape starts

Step Nine : Fold down the top layer of the triangle ( I think It kind of looks like an envelope with bunny ears at this point haha )

Step Ten : Fold the bottom corners into the centre to meet each other and then tuck each one into the
little pockets you'll find in the sides of the upside down triangle .

Step Eleven : Now fold the top  triangles down and tuck them into the pockets made by the last fold.

I think this could make a really heart felt gift and if your single ( Or even if your not ) this valentines day you could practise some self love by making one of these for yourself with a list of all the good things about yourself in them :)

What have you bought your loved ones this valentines day ? Let me know in the comments !

Stay Strong <3 Stay Smiley :)

Lots of love, Marianne xxx

  1. Nice pun with the heart-felt gift haha! But really this is super cute! I love origami, when I was in public school and we had book fairs I ordered an animal origami booklet and I gave everyone origami cats lol! This probably makes more sense than cats! ;)
    Great idea!

  3. Ohh this is such a wonderful, creative idea! <3 Perfect if you don't want to spend too much money. :) Thanks for sharing! Personally, I don't really celebrate Valentine's Day... I never really cared much for it! x I think that we should always celebrate our love, not just one day in the year. :) <3

    1. It's definitely a good cheaper alternative ! I think that valentines day is a good oportunity to highlight your love for someone, of course it should still be shown on other days but I think it's a good celebration of love :)

  4. I suck at origami, haha. But this looks quite easy, maybe I could do this :) I don't celebrate Valentine's Day, so no gifts were bought. But I hope you have a great day! x

Is it just my eyes or is the paper ombre? :O haha and secondly, I literally thank you for this post because I remember being back in elementary and middle school and watching people pass all these cute little heart shaped notes that I never learned how to make!! but now I do :D I'm going to go crazy with the origami now :D Hope you have a really great Valentines Day ;) <3

  9. I really admire you originality with this post, I would love to master origami. I received an origami book for Christmas one year and enjoyed making some of the more basic types. This would make a lovely gift to a loved one, and I like your idea at the end where you mentioned writing/making one for yourself. Great post!! :-) xx

  10. Seeing as I'm single right now, I gave all of my friends an origami heart in a different design to this one. The only problem with that was I made way too many and ended up giving them to random people I've never spoken to and one person ripped it up in front of me and my friends. It was actually quite funny!

  13. What a lovely idea! You could conceal really sweet messages inside ready to be opened :) In a way, this reminds me of that game everyone used to play back in the early years of school (hopefully you know what I mean?! haha), though of course this is far more intricate and impressive!
