£20 Make Up Challenge !

Okay, so we all now that I'm not a beauty blogger... in fact I created my own category and called myself a positivity blogger but any how, I'll give this my best shot hehe :)

A fair while a go I saw a few YouTubers like Emma Blackery doing the £20 make up challenge. The point is to buy a basic set of make up that you could get by on pretty much everyday for only £20 . The problem was that these YouTubers doing the challenge were now earning and had more money than most teenagers who would actually need to buy all their make up for £20. So they haven't had chance to try out lots of budget make up to see what's best and it usually end up suggesting that if you don't have a lot of money to spend on make up then it can't look good . This isn't the case. I've been wearing make up on a budget for about 4 years now and because of that I've tried out plenty of different cheap make up and know where I can afford to spend less so I thought that today, I'd do the challenge and share what I've learnt with you !

Foundation :

For my everyday make up I use the Number 17 BB Blemish Balm from boots ! It's £6.99. I know this isn't the cheapest you can buy your base product but I find it's the one things it's important to get right. Whilst most foundations increase spots, this oil control foundation actually promises to " Improve skin in 4 weeks " and I've definitely noticed a difference :)

Powder :

I have very oily skin so powder is a must. The Seventeen ( This boots brand is brilliant and I would recommend most of their products ) Miracle Matte Pressed Powder is £3.99 and comes in an amazingly wide range of shades which is great for someone like me with skin the colour of a snowman ;)

Blusher :

I've always loved a nice warm blusher and Collections Blush in the shade " Bashful " is my go to blusher even when I can afford something more expensive, this £2.99 Blush is still my favourite !

Lipgloss :

I know a lot of people don't like lipgloss because it's they feel it's too sticky or shiny and just prefer a matte lipstick. But I'm a strong believer in lipgloss and I keep one on me at all times ! Most of the time I stick want a natural lip with a slightly dark pink tint. So this Natural Collection "Juicy Lips Lip Gloss" is perfect and at only £1.99 I really can't complain ! There's loads of different shades, plus they all have a different sweet smell ! The one I use smells of caramel shortbread :)

Mascara :

I cry... a lot ! I don't know why, I'm just a very emotional person ( happy tears most of the time don't worry ) so waterproof ( or Marianne proof as I call it ) mascara is a product I just can't live without . I'm not a massive fan of the Miss Sporty range but I their waterproof mascaras ( £3.99 )  are brilliant and won't budge for anything except your make up remover. Which for has saved me from a lot of awkward panda eyes situations !

So as you can tell, this make up will give you a very natural and discreet look but as a teenager trying not to get caught out at school for just wanting to wear something that makes you feel happier and you enjoy wearing then this look is perfect . If I'm honest I barely changed this look most of my way through secondary school ! So let me know if you've tried any of these products, what did you think ?  Or if not, in the comments tell me what budget make up can't you live with out :)

Stay Strong <3 Stay Smiley :)

Lots of love, Marianne xxx

  3. First of all, I love that you made your own category and I 100% agree that you are a positivity blogger! You totally rocked this challenge! I honestly (and I'm totally ashamed to admit this!) could not do this challenge. Not because I don't use affordable products...only because I wear so many products that even the cheapest would totally up to way more than $20 LOL! I loved this post from you, it was so fun to read. I hope you are having a wonderful week my absolutely beautiful friend! XO -Kim

    1. Well MyHappyBubbles too different not to have it's own hehe because I couldn't fit it into any other category ! Thank you I'm glad you liked it and I know because you're the bad influence that is turning all my make up into expensive things that I can't get enough of ... but I'll forgive you because all the products you talk about are brilliant :)

  4. Oh yeh making yourself outside of the box, Positivity blogger I LOVE it! That is the way to go! ;) As much as I love beauty Youtubers it can be quiet daunting for a lot of people I think especially if you are on a lower budget with the amount of products and the brands they use at times. The cool thing is you can recreate looks with whatever brand you like which is what I love about makeup and just do your version of it. This is such a cool challenge and super realistic as most of us in our teens or early twenties don't usually have a ton of money. I usually just stick to liquid eye liner, mascara and red lippy. I've found some cheap brands for liquid eye liner terrible but I usually hunt out a Maybelline one now. Hahaha oh panda eyes... I don't wear makeup as often as I use to and sometimes I rub my eyes and I'm like "aww f**K! LOL! You are bloody awesome Marianne and a full on radical positivity blogger and I just love it! <3

    1. Hehe thank you Rainbow ! Well I love a good bit of positivity ;) I completely agree, sometimes it can leave you thinking that you can't do anything like that look without spending the earth ! I'm loving red lippy at the minute I can't get enough of it :) I know the feel , or when I forget to take my make up off when I go in the shower , don't realise I have massive black streaks down my face and happily walk downstairs and discover that we have people round haha :)

  6. I'm alright with budget products for lips, eyebrows and everything else, but I just can never seem to nail the powder. Perhaps you're not a beauty blogger, but you've definitely helped a lot with budget products in this one. I love the sticky note at the end, too. I hope you have a lovely day, too, Marianne! <3

  8. :D I love BB cream foundations over regular foundation. I've used foundation in the past but I always go back to BB cream. The one that I use is the Maybelline one because I just love how light it feels but it still has really great coverage. On top of that I don't really have a lot of things that I need to cover up, I'll get pimples (that's just such a horrible word haha) here and there but nothing too serious. I've never used blush because I feel like it doesn't really show up on me and I feel like it would look really dramatic if I did haha but I love how it looks on other people :) It's makes their cheeks look so pinchable :'D haha. I personally prefer lip pencils to fill in my lips :D I don't know why but I just love how it looks and I prefer matte colors or lip tints! Lip tints are the best :D haha I loved this post :D

  9. I loved this post so much! I agree with you, you can make your face look great with only $20, you just have to look around, this post has helped me and probably many others find some good quality products that won't leave your pocket feeling to light. I love the little post-it note at the end of your post, I have have had a great day but I'm going to make myself a hot chocolate with melted chocolate in it anyway :D
Thanks again for a great read!
