Things to remember ...

Hello !

Sorry I'm posting a little later in the day than usual but it's been my firs day at college and I've only just got home... as it turns out I'm not very good with public transport hehe :) A few weeks ago , I saw a list of things to remember and carry with you through life on Pinterest and It got me thinking. What are the things I've learnt so far in life that I really want to keep with me ? So I've made a list of some of these things and thought I'd share them with you today !

  • People can very rarely say anything against you if you openly admit you did something wrong and offer a sincere apology.
  • Remember that people do talk behind your back but they're more than likely saying nice things!  Not all the compliments you get will be to your face, it doesn't mean no one thinks nice things about you .( How often have you turned to your friend and said quietly that you like the shoes the woman sitting across from you on the train is wearing )
  • Smile at anybody who happens to meet your eye !
  • Nothing is permanent . Buddhists have a really nice concept of impermanence which means that nothings will stay the same forever, good or bad it is all impermanent .
  • Wear vanilla perfume .. it induces positivity !
  • Thank the bus driver.
  • Be funny without being mean, people will like you a lot more :)
  • Dress up for everyday !

  • Always Hold the door if you see someone coming.
  • Please and Thank you's don't go unnoticed .. especially when you don't use them !
  • If you say something offensive and you're joking .. the fact your joking doesn't make it okay it makes it rude and the fact you find it funny makes it ruder .
  • Not all Silence needs to be filled, I promise.
  • Your happiness shouldn't depend on anyone but you, but it's okay for it to be influenced by anybody and anything .
  • Always dance ! Trust me you'll look more awkward sat in the corner avoiding eye contact !
  • No one cares . People arn't watching for you to make mistakes, they probably didn't even notice .
  • Never eat once you're full, even at an all you can eat buffet . You'll feel bloated and it will ruin the night !
  • Your Kindness is appreciated .
  • You're worth just as much as everybody else in the world. And they're worth as much as you .
  • This isn't all there is. There's a whole lots of world out there .
  • Everybody sees the world differently and that's okay .
Let me know in the comment what things you live by in life or what messages have stuck with you :) I'd love to hear them because I might do another one of these posts in a year or so because I expect I'll pick more stuff up, I'm still learning.

Stay Strong <3 Stay Smiley :)

  2. Marianne, I just adore you. These things could not be more true and are sincerely some of the best rules to live by! I notice there are two types of "funny" people, people who are funny and tease nicely or those who are mean and rude and think they are funny! You hit the nail on the head so much with your reminders. I love this post Marianne and I truly love your blog, you always inspire me to be more positive and kind, two things I can always use more of! All the love your way my gorgeous friend! XO -Kim

    1. Aww Thank you ! You're so kind and your comments always make my day :) It' s only really occurred to me recently that it's really much nicer to be kind in your humour, if you're making someone laugh but you've also made someone uncomfortable , then I can guarantee the person will remember their discomfort much longer than the other person will be laughing :) I'm really gald you enjoyed it , kindness and positivity are lovey things that I'd really like to involve more in my life and if I can get it involved in other peoples as well then I'll be over the moon ! :)

  4. This was so nice to read - and what a great reminder to do little things: like wear vanilla perfume or say 'thank you' to bus drivers :)

Hope your first day of college is going fab!! :)

    1. I'm really happy you enjoyed it :) I swear by the power of vanilla perfume hehe and I think manners are so so important and some people get caught up in the busy world of everyday lives and forget little things like thank yous :)

  5. That is such a sweet thing for you to say! It really made me smile reading this :) I've been reading a book you might enjoy called The Art of Happiness it's co-written with the Dalai Lama and I'm not very far in yet but it talks about a lot of things like impermanence and other little ways of looking at things that I've found really helpful !

  6. *stands up and cheers* That was so good!! It's always nice to have little reminders like these. Especially the one about doing your own thing because seriously! It's most likely that no one is paying attention to what you are doing so have fun! I also really liked the one about how you don't have to be complimented up front in order to think that people "like you." Something that I've learned is definitely to just not take life too seriously and enjoy what you have while you have it. Really great post Marianne, seriously loved it! :D

    1. I'm so happy you enjoyed it :) It's something that I still don't always remember but I'm definitely a lot better than I used to be ! I also used to be very dependant on compliments because part of me didn't believe I was allowed to feel confident or think that I look nice unless someone told me , it's only recently that I realised I could tell me myself and my opinion was more valid if nothing else because I'm the one who lives in this body :) I completely agree that it's important to just try accept that you have something and love it and be happy about it while you do :)

  7. I love these things and can I just say that your blog is brilliant and has been a great help to me (and no doubt to others) lately!
I think another thing to remember is to always be civil, no matter what someone has said or done and even if you don't want to forgive them (which you don't have to), being horrible back makes you as bad as them!

    1. Thank you so so much that really means a lot to me, it's made my day :)

That's a great one, there's a quote I like that says " Never argue with stupid people, they'll bring you down to there level and beat you with experience " There's no point causing trouble, you're always far better off taking a deep breath and pretending it didn't happen and if you keep being kind to people then maybe they'll learn from it :)
